Book Review: Memorizing Scripture By: Glenna Marshall
Wowza. This book hit home. It was incredibly convicting and incredibly encouraging. I will definitely be reading this annually.
Three Quotes:
“Scripture infused thinking will lead to Christ-centred living. Give God your mind and watch Him change your life.”
“When a believer in Jesus sets her heart and mind on His word, the love for worldly living will fade in her life. Her desire to live for herself will dim. Her pattern of thinking will look more like the Lord’s. She will become a wholehearted, living sacrifice.”
“I’ll tell you what is happening as you mumble and recite and repeat and recount: the Lord is changing the way you think. He is changing your desires. He is keeping you awake to the spiritual battles going on for your affections and attention. He is reminding you that you are His.”
Two Takeaways:
Just start. Stop being intimidated and thinking you don’t have a good memory so you can’t do this. Just start and you will be amazed at the capacity the Lord helps you build.
Including others in your memorization journey helps tremendously. They keep you accountable and it opens a door to a much deeper relationship as you both meditate on God’s word.
One Next Step:
We will memorize Psalm 1:1 as a family.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, not stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seats of scoffers…Psalm 1:1
